Updates 2006!- Updates 2006!- FAMILIA is a Christian charitable organization with a local mission to serve needy youths and children- Updates 2006!- 300 youths (Mostly girls) who have been undergoing empowerment courses under FAMILIA will graduation in 2006- FAMILIA has initiated uniform and reusable sanitary towel project to benefit thousands of girls from poor families- Peer counseling, sports and community services still going on. Children Chapel with about 150 kids will resume.

FAMILIA is a Christian based Youth and Child-service organization based in Nairobi, Kenya and now establishing rural youth network.  We work to meet the needs of the youths and Children in Especially Difficult Circumstances. THE CENTER FOR YOUTH EMPOWERMENT (CYE)

FAMILIA operates a Youth Resource Center in Kariobangi, Nairobi, known as Center for Youth Empowerment (CYE). Our Center serves over 300 needy youths at a go, dealing with among other issues: -

  1. Skills courses including Fashion design/Tailoring* Hair designs and beauty and*Computer software classes
  2. Rehabilitation and Crisis Counseling
  3. Community services and Sports for slum youths
Currently, our Center serves 80% girls considering their plights compared to their male counterpart.

Here, some of the needy youths from the slum learn skills in Computer software at the FAMILIA’s CYE. There are about 300 youths undertaking these courses. Thanks to Jason Brayda of Kenya Kids Ministries for donating six computers used in these courses.

INSTITUTE FOR SOCIAL STUDIES AND ADVOCACY (ISSA)

The ISSA is an implementing department whose purpose is to stand for the rights of the youth, children and families. It is also a training institution offering sponsored internal certificates, diplomas and Higher-diplomas. The beneficiaries must be working to improve the lives of poor communities especially youth and children. Contributions towards these courses are some of the most affordable.

About 50 students working for small NGOs and churches are trained in Social Welfare, Advocacy and Counseling.

OUR BACKGROUND AND WORK


FAMILIA started from a humble beginning, with a single youth prayer meeting in 1996 at a slum in Nairobi. Currently, over 100,000 people are met annually through Community Services, health education, awareness, rehabilitation and empowerment.

ST. CAROLYN CHILDREN  PROGRAMME AND CHAPEL


St. Carolyn Children Programme takes care of  the Children in especially Difficulty Circumstances are addressed through this Program. As a Christian organization, FAMILIA have organized a children’s chapel that composes of orphaned youths and children.

In FAMILIA Hundreds of youths and children attend a Chapel organized for their well-being. Almost 200 kids and youths, most of them our beneficiaries, are members of this Chapel.


ST. CAROLYN’S HOSTELS:
A permanent home for (FAMILIA’s) Center for Youth Empowerment (CYE)

With the death of 7 months Carolyn Shiko, the daughter of the FAMILIA Director Fredrick, and Eunice, the Children’s Program Coordinator. Both decided to make a home in her memory that they named St. Carolyn’s Hostels. Currently, the Hostels accommodate FAMILIA CYE and cater for about 300 youths at a go. Again some of the important training equipment and this website was donated for her by Nicole and Chris, a couple from Texas.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

Looking back from FAMILIA inception, we are proud to meet thousands of youths and children through empowerment, health education, counseling and awareness. We have also served the communities through our volunteers. At our level, we are happy to see our achievements. Hundreds of youths are now hoping for a brighter future. RESPONDING TO YOUTH SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

FAMILIA’s Center for Youth Empowerment CYE in Kariobangi South Light Industries also responds to the reproductive health needs of mostly the youth by developing and adopting appropriate information, education and communication (IEC) and referrals to service delivery institutions.
